VIWASUPCO Continues the GELEX Blood Donation Journey: “One Drop of Blood – One GELEX Heart”
Some travelled more than ten kilometers to reach the blood donation site. Some were giving blood for the first time, while others had already donated 23 times. Along the way, an unexpected breakdown even brought a group of colleagues together to push their vehicle and make sure they arrived on time. These simple moments made for a memorable morning at VIWASUPCO.
Coming Together to Give
On the morning of 21 August, VIWASUPCO was busier than usual as employees came together to take part in a voluntary blood donation drive.
It was the first time VIWASUPCO had hosted a blood donation drive at its own workplace, and it also marked the final stop of GELEX’s 2026 “One Drop of Blood – One GELEX Heart” journey.
For some employees, getting there meant travelling more than ten kilometers. On the way to the plant, one of the vehicles carrying employees broke down. Rather than waiting or leaving a few people to sort things out, everyone got out, pushed the vehicle together, and worked to get it moving again so they could continue their journey and make it to the donation site on time.
It was a small moment before the program even began, but it captured something important about the people at VIWASUPCO: when something gets in the way, people come together to help each other through it.

Stories of Giving Continue at the Donation Site
For Mr. Lê Trung Dũng, Director of the Song Da Water Treatment Plant, this was his first time donating blood. It was something he had wanted to do for a long time, but had never had the opportunity to act on until now. For him, giving blood may seem like a small gesture. But when that blood reaches someone at the moment they need it most, that simple act can mean something much bigger.

Nguyễn Vân Anh from the General Affairs Department, meanwhile, has donated blood 23 times. Yet this donation still felt different. It was the first time she had been able to do something she cared about at her own workplace, alongside her colleagues. “When the company organized the blood drive, I was happy to take part and encouraged my colleagues to join as well. Doing something meaningful together made me feel even more connected to and proud of the company”, she shared.
What begins as an individual choice can become a shared experience when people choose to do it together.
When Leaders Lead by Example
One of the most memorable aspects of the morning was the direct participation of VIWASUPCO’s leadership team. CEO Nguyễn Xuân Quý joined managers and employees in donating blood from the start of the day.

Their presence was more than a gesture of support for a charitable initiative. By taking part themselves, the leadership team helped turn a message about social responsibility into something people could see and experience.
Speaking at the program, Nguyễn Xuân Quý said that blood donation was a practical way for employees to come together and contribute to the community.
“That spirit is also part of GELEX’s culture: working together, growing together, and creating positive value for society. For VIWASUPCO, responsibility to the community is closely connected to what we do every day”.
As an important clean water provider for Hanoi, VIWASUPCO continues to invest in expanding its water supply capacity. The company is now implementing Phase 2 of its development plan, with a target of reaching a capacity of 600,000 m³ per day by the end of 2026 and continuing to expand in the years ahead.
That growth goes hand in hand with a broader responsibility to society. Sustainable development is not only about the economic value a business creates, but also about the positive contribution it and its people make to the communities around them.
One Journey Ends, the Spirit Continues
2026 marks the second year GELEX has organized the “One Drop of Blood – One GELEX Heart” program, as part of the 18th annual Red Sunday campaign launched by Tiền Phong Newspaper in partnership with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
From June to August 2026, the journey reached six locations across Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and, finally, Phu Tho.
What began as an internal volunteering initiative has continued to grow, with support from GELEX’s leadership, member companies, employees and business partners. More than 1,100 employees registered to donate blood this year.

Every Stop Has Its Own Story
Some people donated blood for the first time. Others had done it many times before. Some travelled a long way to take part. And some simply got out of a vehicle and pushed when an unexpected problem stood in the way.
Each moment may seem small on its own. Together, they tell a bigger story: of people who care, lend a hand, and are willing to take action for something that matters.
Because corporate culture is not always found in big gestures. Sometimes, it shows up in the way leaders choose to go first, the way colleagues step in to help one another, and the choice to give a small part of oneself to give someone else a chance at life.
The blood donation drive at VIWASUPCO brought the 2026 “One Drop of Blood – One GELEX Heart” journey to a close, with more than 1,100 participants and nearly 1,000 units of blood donated. But what was given along the way does not end there. It lives on in the everyday acts of care, responsibility and solidarity that bring the GELEX community together.
